Environmental Policy

Brick Kiln Composites (BKC) is a manufacturer of precise carbon composite and metallic parts to a range of Formula One and Automotive customers. Our customers expect precision, and we always endeavour to deliver. However, this can often conflict with wider local, national and international efforts to combat wastage and climate change. Given that the composite industry can therefore be a waste and energy intense sector, it is imperative that we actively seek to improve sustainable and environmentally friendly policies and practices.

To do this, we partner with our customers and suppliers to ensure the following:

1. That we eliminate as much waste as possible, and reduce the amount of pollution we emit back into the environment;

2. That our products are manufactured in the most efficient way possible;

3. That we schedule work to be as energy efficient as possible;

4. That we recycle as far as possible;

5. That we use clean or re-used sources of material and energy;

6. That we partner with sustainable suppliers and customers.

In practice, this means we:

1. Invest in software and systems that improve efficiency in material usage and scheduling of energy intense resources.

2. Plan production schedules and orders with the full pipeline of customers and suppliers to ensure we flatten the curve on energy-intense pre-preg manufacture.

3. Maximise and liaise with our energy suppliers to utilise cheaper and more sustainable energy sources.

4. Maximise material usage using nesting software and recycle as far as possible across the business.

5. Re-life material as far as possible, ensuring we balance sustainability with precision parts, and invest in re-usable composite fabrics.

6. Partner with suppliers and customers who match our goals and ethos of sustainability, ensuring that we minimise wastage and maximise the evolution of greener automotive and motorsport practices.

Carbon composite manufacture does not need to be carbon intensive, and this sustainability pledge commits BKC to driving forward change to ensure that we, and our suppliers meet the challenges of climate change and sustainability.
